Abstract: | |
An unquestionable fact is; we need more energy. This rhetoric very much implies that we need more energy sources as well, especially the ones that are clean, green and renewable.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Pakistan is not self-sufficient in it's energy needs. The high cost of a wind powerplant, specifically the Wind Mills, generally keeps investors and the government away from wind power and hence our wind power sector; entirely unexploited. We need a cheap and efficient method to harvest wind energy.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
Pakistan is aiming to shift 60% of it's energy to renewables by 2030, to meet climate goals. Today, such cheap solutions of harvesting clean energy efficiently is the need of Government in general, to fulfil the energy needs of industrial sector and masses. Masses & industries will benefit directly.
How will the solution works
The system is intended to generate energy from the high winds inaccessible or too expensive to access by existing wind mills. It consists of a ordinary sail-plane with an onboard generator. Low power brushless motors allow the plane to take-off up to a requisite height (100m to 150m) after which the motors turn off and plane glides, generating power from relative windspeeds as high as 15 to 20m/s. The high lift generated by such wind keeps plane in air for long period of time.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
Within Pakistan, no registered company employs the same solution to harvest high wind energy. International companies producing on-board generation system notably include Makani Power and Ampyx Power. We intend to introduce same technology in Pakistan to meet clean and renewable energy needs.
