Abstract:
This project is based on the design of static transfer switch (STS) which can be employed to ensure the bidirectional power flow under different loading conditions in DC micro grid.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
The idea behind this project is to meet the ever increasing demand of electricity by making the efficient use of clean energy by exporting the surplus amount of energy to main micro grid. Installation of micro_grids on this principle will significantly reduce the transmission line costing in remote.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
The methodology of DC micro_grid synchronisation with AC utility will be beneficial in those sector where sensitive loads have been installed and working all the time. That's the reason it will improve the nationwide production of electricity.
How will the solution works
The micro grid is DC and it is connected to AC grid through static transfer switch. A mechanism is being designed using static transfer switch(STS) which can detect either the DC micro-grid is under-load or over load. It should import the desired power from the AC Grid in under-loading condition. When the supply exceeds demand, it should export power from the DC micro-grid to AC main grid. For this purpose, a bidirectional AC/DC converter is being designed in order to achieve bidirectional flow.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
There are currently no local competitors. Internationally, a handful of countries have worked and implemented this technology at different levels. Its different from anything available in Pakistan.
