Abstract:
    This project offers a solution to the environmental threat of coal fly-ash production from coal power plants by producing an indigenous supply of a vital product, pure phase zeolites.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Our project will tackle fly-ash mishandling which not only contributes to the loss of land and financial resources, but also results in severe environmental consequences. It will also reduce the imports of zeolites and ease up the foreign expense.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Utilization of fly-ash will reduce the environmental pollution resulting in sustainable energy generation from coal power plants. The zeolites produced can further be used in the following industrial sectors: water treatment, refineries and as a detergent base.
How will the solution works
    The synthesis process of zeolite includes activation of the fly ash with an alkali solution and a further hydrothermal synthesis, producing an aluminosilicate gel. This gel is then further treated hydrothermally so that crystal formation occurs. The crystals obtained are washed and filtered first and then dried to get the final product (zeolite).
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    The produced zeolites will be characterized for their surface area and structural properties proving to be suitable for aforementioned applications. This will ensure its competitiveness with the commercially imported products to ensure full indigenization of zeolite production in the near future.
