Abstract:
The project aims to develop a cost-effective as well as an efficient gait analysis system using video cameras, passive markers, force sensors and instrumented treadmill.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Our project helps in the diagnosis of medical conditions related to human gait which is required for proper treatment. It is also helpful in rehabilitation process.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
Gait analysis is used to assess and treat individuals with conditions affecting their ability to walk. It is also commonly used in sports biomechanics to help athletes run more efficiently and to identify posture-related or movement-related problems in people with injuries.
How will the solution works
The techniques of digital video and digital image processing are employed to identify and trace the markers. An instrumented treadmill equipped with force plates is used to get natural motion of the subject. MATLAB algorithms are used to analyze and present the data.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
Presently gait analysis is done in sophisticated lab environment comprises of high resolution 3-D video cameras placed around the walkway having a force plate. Although it provides accurate data but use of high cost cameras and active markers make it expensive. We provide a cost-effective solution.
