Abstract: |
Personetics is a biotech company idea that hopes to specialize in developing an early diagnostic tool which allows rapid and cost-effective assembly of disease-related hotspots. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
High mortality rates for multi-factorial diseases like ischemic heart disease and cancers can be due to late diagnosis. Cost-effective and early diagnostic means are the need of Pakistan’s healthcare system which can help reduce this mortality rate. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
This diagnostic test could be useful for breast cancer patients with benign cancers to predict the likely course of disease progression as well as any individual who wants to get a read on what their disease-prone sequences are predicting in terms of them acquiring breast cancer in the near future. |
How will the solution works |
The molecular test is blood-based and will make use of a DNA extraction kit to extract DNA. Using the assembly PCR technique we will amplify the extracted DNA for biomarkers linked to breast cancer for Pakistani population. The PCR technique will help to combine different SNP included gene portions together which can then be sequenced to detect the mutations. For result interpretation, an equation will be generated to calculate the probability of acquiring breast cancer in the near future. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
To the best of our knowledge, the biotech firms within Pakistan working on developing molecular based diagnostic are still underway with no prominent names. So if this solution does materialize, we might be among the first developers of a breast cancer diagnostic kit that is locally generated. |
