Abstract:
    Use image recognition to develop a system of traffic sensitive traffic signals which would adjust the timings according to the traffic volume under consideration, in real-time, to save time and money.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Traffic signals are a very important component of any traffic flow system but unfortunately, the century-old design has still not been upgraded. Modern processes like artificial intelligence are making everything very efficient, and we believe that traffic signals also have a lot to gain from this.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   The public needs it unknowingly. The amount of fuel that it will save, will reduce our national imports. Reduction in CO2 emissions will improve our environment. Drivers will have to wait less. Since its effects can not be measured directly, this issue gets neglected by the common eye.
How will the solution works
    The system will consist of cameras and a controller(processing unit) which could be integrated into a standard traffic signal. The controller will use the footage to estimate the number of vehicles in the traffic flow and their volume/behaviour. It would assign the green light time to each road accordingly, unlike the system in practice, which assigns the same time to the road, regardless of the traffic dynamics there.Multiple smart systems will communicate with each other to work even better.
