Abstract: |
Stagnant water on roads causes urban flooding, hydroplaning, create potholes, and cause accidents. To circumvent this, rainwater/stormwater lost as surface runoff may be used to recharge the water table naturally and fulfill water requirements in low-water table areas utilizing porous asphalt. Potassium titanate will be added to porous asphalt roads to maintain its strength. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Pakistan's stormwater management system failed during the recent rainy season. Porous asphalt roads will mitigate urban flooding by penetrating water in the pavement that will recharge the water table naturally and will reduce accidents. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
Directly or indirectly the public will be the beneficiary as porous asphalt roads will mitigate urban flooding. These roads will raise the ground water table in dry areas of Pakistan and will accelerate the development of the energy sector by resolving issues such as environmental contamination. |
How will the solution works |
To construct multiple porous asphalt samples by changing the size of aggregates, amount of Potassium Titanate and thickness of chocker and recharge bed to check the infiltration capacity and the strength of porous asphalt. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
This idea has never been used in Pakistan nor any company is working on it. However, in some other countries i.e., USA and Japan where it has been used and strength was the main issue. Potassium titanate will be used to fill this gap. |
