Abstract:
    Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease with a high global prevalence, making it a global health concern. Current approaches to monitor blood glucose levels are painful, invasive and inconvenient specifically for those using vasodilators and suffering from multiple diseases. We aimed to develop glucose monitoring kit where saliva could be used to detect glucose level in human body.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    The current approaches to monitor blood glucose levels are painful and invasive. The finger pricking method is painful for infants and patients who have to monitor their sugar level several times a day and patients who are suffering from multiple diseases.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Infants, elderly patients, patients suffering from type 2 diabetes and diabetic patients suffering from thalassemia, anemia or other diseases.
How will the solution works
    The proposed solution will be taking saliva on the strip. The strips will be gold plated as base coating. The second layer will be Graphene sheet which is non reactive and the last layer will be having 2 compartments, electrodes on one side for generating signals and reagents on other side to detect glucose in saliva. The device for taking signal and generating output will be the same as used in blood glucose monitoring with certain modifications.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Several international competitors including DiaMonTech, Intelligent Biosolution, iQ Group Global which are using biosensors, infrared lights or contact lens for detection of glucose levels in the saliva, however, we propose to develop it locally using cost effective method.
