Abstract: |
An efficient, cost-effective, and patient-directed, soft-robotics-based assistive wearable device for the post-stroke rehabilitation of patients with upper limb functional impairment. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
According to the WHO, 15 million stroke cases occur annually out of which more than 34% are temporary and require rehabilitation. Stroke is the most frequently occurring disease in Pakistan, but the impending health infrastructure is unable to support the patient with only 10 stroke care centers. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
The project aims to provide a soft-robotics-based assistive wearable device for stroke patients with upper limb functional impairment, which roughly accounts for half of the total stroke population in Pakistan. |
How will the solution works |
This study aims to develop a novel experimental protocol for the augmentation of the physical function of a differently-abled person using sEMG-based, interactive game control interfaces. The project aims to design, analyze and fabricate an exoskeleton using a more robust, intuitive, and versatile approach with the help of pattern recognition as a command source for the control so that there will be an increase in comfortability and cost-effectiveness of exoskeleton-based therapy in Pakistan. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
In the local market, our only tangible competitors include therapeutic centers that provide rehabilitation at exorbitant costs. Moreover, the challenges associated with them i.e. high cost, time-consuming, and non-interactiveness, make them less accessible to everyone. |
