Abstract:
3D concrete printing aims at automated, fast, and reliable construction of houses and infrastructure. This futuristic approach will transform the construction industry with its flexibility in design. Our research will minimize the challenges associated with conventional concrete construction by introducing this technology in Pakistan. The concrete printer is manufactured using indigenous materials
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Our idea is characterized by increased precision, reduced manufacturing time, geometric design freedom, reuse of waste materials, labor-saving construction, eco-friendly, diminished casting requirements, and safer working. We aim to introduce this technology, along with its perks, in Pakistan.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
In general, the construction industry will benefit from it the most. Further, it is eco-friendly and economical in terms of large-scale construction such as housing societies. In the future, engineers, contractors, and the public at large will benefit from it.
How will the solution works
First, we make a 3D model of the required structure. The slicer slices the model and generates a G-code file. The controller reads the G-code and moves the assembly with respect to the generated coordinates through stepper motors. The extruder extrudes the filament layer of the concrete mix through a torque screw which in our case we have used a locally available Auger Blade. The concrete mix is prepared with desired rheological and hardened state properties compatible with the printer.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
Pre-cast member manufacturers are prevailing in the industry, but this technique is almost as laborious & time taking as conventional construction whereas 3DCP is much faster and labor & time efficient. Further, we are competing against the typical idea of conventional construction practices.
