Abstract:
    The basic goal of the SigmaBot quadruped is to access places that might be deemed too hazardous for humans. We aim to provide a safe solution for rescue programs in post-natural calamities or accidents. The leg of this quadruped has been reimagined to provide greater penetration into the areas of risk, to ensure that no human life is left in danger.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    The SigmaBot quadruped provides a strong basis for human-robot collaboration, enabling it to remove large debris and make clear pathways for the human rescue mission to be carried out. This would in turn increase the effectiveness of search and rescue operations.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   The most common natural disaster occurrence in Pakistan is flooding. The last major flooding incident in Pakistan effected more than 20 million people and 20% of the land. These numbers would have been greatly reduced if an infrastructure that include UGV rescue missions with would be implemented.
How will the solution works
    The leg designed for this particular quadruped is based on the scissor mechanism, also known as Elastically Loaded Scissor Mechanism. This mechanism offers an increased mechanical advantage with the same amount of torque compared to a conventional quadruped leg design and so it allows for more efficient robot movement. The ability of SigmaBot’s leg to contract and expand vertically, allows it perform locomotion at different heights.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    The void remains in Pakistan with regards to the incorporation of robotics in search and rescue operations industry. This provides SigmaBot with a unique opportunity to bring a tried and tested intelligent solution to Pakistan in order to save countless lives.
