Abstract:
Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) are used to either safely detonate or to dispose of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and Unexploded Explosive Ordnance (UXOs) that are a threat to both Armed Forces and innocent civilians by using simultaneously operatable disruptor gun and gripping mechanisms. Cameras are installed on the UGV to give video feedback for the wireless operation of the UGV.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
There are a lot of IED attacks and UXO explosions in Pakistan by terrorist groups which can be avoided by disposing of these devices. The availability of a wireless-controlled robot for disposal would safeguard the lives of the disposal squad in case of anomalies.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
The wireless-controlled IED disposal UGV is the need of an IED and UXO disposal squads that are currently putting their lives in danger for the safety of the general public. It would provide safety from IED attacks and UXO explosions to both Armed Forces and innocent civilians.
How will the solution works
The UGV will be controlled via a remote controller based on video feedback provided by a camera. Both parts of the mechanism i.e the disruptor gun and the gripper for safe disposal of IED/UXO can be used simultaneously using the same remote controller as for UGV. The communication between the remote controller and the robot (UGV and mechanism) will be done using a wireless router installed on the UGV which will also provide video feedback from the camera on a screen for the user.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
The current mechanism used by Army can perform one of two actions i.e., detonation and disposal. This creates a need to change the mechanism in the middle of the operation to meet the needs of the field. The redesigned mechanism will make the system more efficient, fast, and flexible.
