2/3: That’s a Wrap

FICS is a competition aimed at finding solutions – solutions to problems faced by industries, professionals, and society at large. Our aim is to create a system that ensures both the generation of ideas that target problems and the recognition and implementation of these ideas, as well as the designs they give birth to.

To achieve the former half of this goal, we conducted numerous idea-generating sessions with guest speakers from various domains.  We provided our participants, with the ideal environment to shape their technical knowledge into practical projects.

From evaluating the feasibility of the projects to asking questions about their financials, our judges indeed checked all the nitty-gritty details of each project. They appraised, valued, and rated our aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators in qualitative as well as quantitative forms.

Setting the Stage:

The Mise-en-Scène has to be done perfectly to ensure a frictionless run of the event. Sure enough, Team Protocols, alongside their newly merged helpers, had the CIPS corridors lined and ready to receive incoming teams.

Armed with Laptops and standees, the influx of incoming participants started giving the event its characteristic look. Busy as they were, they were escorted to the Jinnah Auditorium for the opening ceremony, and a session with our guest speaker, Miss Cynia Ejaz.

A Formal Welcome:

After the hall was filled to the brim, Miss Ejaz’s address began. A fruitful session with maximum engagement from all Stage Two participants, the opening ceremony was a success.

Presenting Ideas – Let the Judgement Begin:

The heart of Stage Two is all about presenting ideas that participants have spent countless hours crafting away. Right after our guest speaker session, teams were escorted back to their tables and soon after, judges started arriving. Each judge, alongside their dedicated usher, judged and evaluated a range of projects through their online rubrics.

Ideas from domains spanning various SDGs including but not limited to affordable and clean energy, climate action, good health and well-being, industry, innovation, and tech were heard, inspected, and inquired about, by our judges.

Many judges took an interest in projects that weren’t included in their designated rubrics, some not even part of their fields, but presented well enough to catch their eye nonetheless. Cue the networking.

A smiling team spotted?

Good industry advice and a business card are probably behind that. Either that, or it was time for refreshments, which were distributed timely among the participants. Team Protocols ensured that everyone replenished their energy.

To Stage Three and Beyond

While judges kept coming throughout the day, things started wrapping up at around four. Participants were seen rolling up their standees, tired but with a gleam in their eyes, hoping to be back for Stage Three. Eventually, CIPS was fully empty by 5 0’clock.

It was a calm end to an exciting and well-executed day. With that, we wish all the best to our participants and look forward to seeing them with us at Stage Three.
