Abstract:
    Our idea is refrigeration using vapor absorption system at commercial level. It uses thermal energy instead of electricity. Its cycle is similar to vapor compression system, but compressor is replaced by absorber, pump, generator, and heat exchanger. In our system, we are using water as refrigerant and LiBr as absorbent. We will be using parabolic dish solar collector for heating in generator.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Pakistan is an energy deficient country. This deficiency hits its peak in summers. When everyone is using refrigeration systems powered by electricity. This need of electricity cuts short if refrigeration systems use solar energy. It will save money and make refrigeration eco-friendly.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Everyone needs it. In today’s day and age, thermal comfort has become more of a necessity than a luxury. From residential areas to commercial offices, from schools to hospitals, from workplaces to shopping malls, Air Conditioning is required everywhere.
How will the solution works
    Refrigerant (water) evaporates in evaporator producing cooling. After that, it gets absorbed in absorbent (LiBr) in absorber. This mixture is pumped through a heat exchanger to generator. Heat is provided in generator through solar collector. Water vapors leave the mixture at high pressure in generator. Then water vapors condense in the condenser and goes to evaporator after passing through expansion valve. 1 ton refrigeration is done by heat gained through dish solar collector of 3m diameter.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Our competitors are all the companies which are making refrigeration units for air conditioning purposes using vapor compression technology. These include PEL, Dawlance, Gree, and Haier etc.
