Abstract: |
There are millions of lower limb amputees worldwide. Most prosthetics for amputees are passive and do not allow the user to manipulate the knee according to their needs. This results in irregular gait that may negatively impact joint integrity over the long run. Active knee prosthetics attempt to correct this problem by allowing the user to actuate the knee like their unamputated limb to restore n |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
As prosthesis are expensive these days, we aim to provide affordable prosthesis to everyone. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
Amputees require this. The WHO has estimated the total number of lower limb amputees in the world is around 285 million, with a million new cases added annually, whereas the number of upper amputees is estimated to be around 3 million. |
How will the solution works |
The four-bar linkage mechanism is easy to design, develop, optimize, maintain and control as it provides a mechanical self-locking mechanism, and with the help of an AI-driven control mechanism, it will be much easier for the user to be able to walk, run, climb on different terrain grounds by increasing or decreasing the dampness of the dampers present in the control mechanism. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
Blatchford, Ossur, Ottobock. Our solution is relatively much cheaper and more accessible. |
