Abstract:
A wearable, compact and cost effective Exo-Glove that help stroke patients to carry out activities of daily living.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Most available Exo-Glove are too costly and heavy. They implement complex mechanism to actuate the fingers of hand to aid the stroke patient. Our model harnesses the power of shoulder to mechanically actuate the fingers. It weighs and cost a lot less.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
Stroke patients particularly those suffering from loss of Hand Dexterity would greatly benefit from it. Roughly 15 million people suffer from stroke yearly.
How will the solution works
The solution consists of a glove that has artificial tendons routed through it. The tendons meet at the differential mechanism that distributes force to the participating fingers. The amount of extension or flexion of fingers is controlled by the shoulder harness that pulls the tendons as the shoulder moves and a lever in the differential locks itself at a particular position thus locking the fingers at a fixed place. Further pulling the shoulder unlocks the lever causing the fingers to relax.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
No such competitors in Pakistan presently as no viable solution is commercially available. Our solution is purely mechanically controlled and can also be automated using EMG sensors at a later stage.
