Abstract:
    Physiotherapy is an essential part of recovery from stroke, but it has it's constraints. It is tedious, time consuming and requires a professional. Robot-assisted physiotherapy removes these constraints and provides high intensity training without the need of a professional. We are developing a lower-limb rehabilitation device for stroke patients that can be operated at home.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Our idea provides accessible treatment for stroke patients. Due to the constraints of conventional physiotherapy, significant number of stroke patients do not gain access to physiotherapy. Our idea will be able to provide physiotherapy in a home based environment without the need of a professional
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Our device is needed by stroke patients. Each year, 15 million people suffer from stroke worldwide. In Pakistan, the rate of stroke patients per 100,000 is 250, which is one of the highest in the world. With the increase in population, the number of stroke patients will also increase.
How will the solution works
    The device performs dorsiflexion and plantar-flexion on the foot of the patient. A combination of different mechanical components allow us to get the required motion. Our device is capable of both active and passive motion. For active motion, the entire exercise will be actuated by the motor only. For passive motion, the EMG sensor will detect electrical activity of the muscles, if it is above a preset threshold, the motor will assist in performing the exercise.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Our device is portable and focuses on lower limb rehabilitation. At present, there is no commercially available product. At national level, there are no competitors at all. Whereas in international market, there are a few devices available but none of them is portable like our device.
