Food is wasted due to slow process in the supply chain & because of damage to fruits. Traditional robots are not feasible
thus robots with soft end effectors can be employed to cater for the problem. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
There are robots which are being used for fruit picking, but there is one major problem with these robots and that is they damage the food, and due to this reason robots are still lagging in this industry. The soft end effector targets to solve these issues of society. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
The food industry is in need of robots or robotic end effectors that can optimize the picking & packaging process in the industry so to avoid food wastage in the post-harvest process. The benefit of food being in pristine condition due to efficient packaging process is for every living being. |
How will the solution works |
Soft end effector consists of a stretchy series of chambers arranged in a row made of elastomer and rigid paper embedded in base. If device is inflated( by air pressure), the chambers expand, this causes the actuator expand but rigid paper does not expand, so actuator bends and grasps object without damaging it, showing compliance. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
The competitors of the soft end effector are those robots which are used in food picking & packaging operations, the soft end effector is different from its competitors in a way that it can easily grasp to different sizes and shapes, something not quite possible for rigid end effectors. |
