Abstract:
We are proposing to treat toxic waste water containing heavy metals using bio-adsorption properties of seashell.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Industrial waste water has the ability to contaminate soil which consequently, lead to poor soil quality and agricultural productivity and ultimately becomes a hazard to human and animal health. Furthermore, it can contaminate other water bodies as well making it dangerous for domestic consumption.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
Every industry in Pakistan that is working and producing industrial effluents, as only 1% of domestic and industrial wastewater receives treatment. It would enhance the outputs for farmers and benefit the general public all over the Pakistan in terms of health and safe water availability
How will the solution works
Seashells are dried and crushed into powder form and incubated in beakers. These beakers contain the industrial effluents including heavy metals. The seashell powder will act as a filter and adsorb the heavy metals. Further, followed by spectrophotometric analysis of control and contaminated sample.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
Conventional Industrial waste water treatment are our competitors. Our solution uses the natural adsorbent ability of the seashells making our idea sustainable and cost effective. Furthermore, it is practical and easily applicable at the industrial level.
