Abstract: |
In context of increasing poverty in mountainous regions coupled with nation-wide water scarcity, over-population, power outage and climate change we present a novel solution to fulfill water demand. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Wastewater is inadequately treated nation-wide causing health problems. Existing water supply utilizes energy and natural resources in the form of motors and tube wells. Our solution re uses waste water using minimal energy solving the previous stated problems. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
People who reside in the neglected and peripheral mountainous regions nation wide from the Brahui mountain range to Northern areas would benefit from this project. The population would correspond to between 10-20 million people living in high altitude Af-Pak region, hazara and kashmir. |
How will the solution works |
Our solution will use the cold temperatures of high altitude areas to freeze waste water generated by settlements nearby. Effluent will be transported to micro-climates like caves or shady areas where temperatures are cold enough to freeze water. Now Ice crystals on freezing expel all previously dissolved contaminants to the surface, the contaminants are then removed from the surface and the ice is transported to a warmer place nearby like sunlight where they are melted. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
Traditional methods of water supply like Karez will compete with our idea. Other modern methods like RO/NF may also compete once this technology spreads in market. Our solution utilizes geographical extremes instead of other solutions which are either knowledge-intensive or energy-intensive. |
