Abstract: |
Hydrogen fuel cells is energy of future. The biggest hindrances in the way is the expensive and rare Platinum. A substitute for platinum is Zirconium Nitride which is less costly and equally efficient. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Fuel cell is a renewable energy source that operates at higher thermodynamic efficiency and is pollution free with low greenhouse gas emissions. Placing Zirconium nitride as the catalyst makes the fuel cell affordable and it can be used for different purposes in industries as well as in daily lifes. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
It is the energy of tomorrow. As the fuel cell and hydrogen industries continue to grow, market expansion opportunities will also expand for these sectors. In addition, its pollution free aspect is benefiting the future generations and the whole mankind by making this planet habitable. |
How will the solution works |
A fuel cell uses the chemical energy of hydrogen or other fuels to cleanly and efficiently produce electricity. If hydrogen is the fuel, the only products are electricity, water, and heat. In this hydrogen fuel cell, Zirconium nitride at the anode separates hydrogen molecules into protons and electrons, which take different paths to the cathode. The electrons go through an external circuit, creating a flow of electricity. The protons migrate through the electrolyte to the cathode. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
Our major competitors would be the platinum suppliers. The replacement will not only cause a budget friendly production of energy but also zirconium nitride has more decaying time than platinum which means the corrosion is greatly delayed. This will cause less concentration of catalyst used. |
