Abstract:
A number of clasps used in jewellery, such as lobster clasps or spring clasps, have tiny scales and levers which are unergonomic for people who have arthritis, shaky hands, disability, etc.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
There are tools designed for many tasks, but few tools exist to assist people in wearing jewellery. Jewellery wearing is a simple everyday task which should be simple. There are other locks besides lobster and spring clasps but every clasp is restricted to a particular aesthetic of jewellery.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
People who have problems such as arthritis, poor dexterity, oily fingers, shaky hands, or even normal people who experience some form of difficulty in putting on bracelets and necklaces by themselves.
How will the solution works
The tool could clamp or hold the jewellery piece from one end, while the other end remains free so that the user requires only one hand now to clasp the necklace or bracelet. The tool will also ensure the hands remain in the natural ergonomic position and angle while the user is using the tool. I'm also thinking of incorporating a smart camera feature that makes the user see where the clasp is going when they're clasping their necklace on the back.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
There's a bracelet assistant tool available scarcely in the market, but it has technical issues such as the claw mechanism which leaves scratches on fine jewellery. The joinery is also weak, and the claw requires a lot of pressure to open and close which is not suitable for arthritis users.
