Abstract: |
The CRISPR/Cas9 system is a newly developed genome-editing tool allows for sequence-specific cutting of DNA. The purpose of the proposed study is to utilize CRISPR as Anti HBV therapeutics against HBV |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Globally 250 million people are HBV infected worldwide. 10 million people in Pakistan suffer from this disease since it is endemic in Pakistan. To date, people were reliant upon INF + Anti-viral treatment, which besides beinless effective was also expensive and do not provide 100% cure to patients. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
In 2016, an updated estimate indicated that the total global HBV infection prevalence increased from 3.9% to 4.6%), corresponding to 292 million people globally, suggesting that the presence of HBV was not decreasing. In October 2015, WHO released its first official strategy for the control HCV/HBV |
How will the solution works |
Current therapies are proven to be not so effective for eradicating viruses completely at the cellular level. However, this technology is a targeted approach to target liver cells to specifically cut the HBV DNA. This technology not only helps to cure HBV but also a range of viral infections that are life-threatening like EBV, HIV. There are internationally antiviral CRISPR technologies that are being practiced on the patients directly (clinical trials) |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
Our technology works on the delivery of plasmids through Lipid nanoparticles (LNP). It will be introduced in the body through injection. No pain will be experienced by the recipient as in current antiviral therapies. The ease of production of the plasmids at the lab level in bulk makes it adaptable. |
