Abstract:
Plastic waste and Styrofoam is collected and shredded using shredder, then mixed with used cooking oil in a mixer and heated. A slurry formed is then poured in a mould and allowed to cool down.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Recycling the waste plastic to save energy consumed in making plastic from raw materials, Reducing fossil fuel consumption, Diverting discarded plastics and turning them into new goods, Using residual and waste oil to make a beneficial goods and using solar energy to save the ecosystem.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
The society needs an upward shift in the amount of plastic it recycles every year which will be boosted with this project. Thus, will benefit a mass scale of people on long-term. It will be beneficial in terms of the cost as it is cheaper alternative than the currently available product in market.
How will the solution works
The idea works on the principle of melting and re-densifying. The plastic and polystyrene are first fed into a shredder which shreds them into tiny bits. They are fed into a mixer which also contains oil The mixer temperature is raised to about 120℃ where most of the plastic melts. The melted slurry is taken out in a container and then put into a mold. The slurry is left in atmosphere for about a half day which makes the final product – the plastic brick.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
There is no direct competition of this idea as no industry is producing plastic bricks from plastic waste. Indirect competitors are the tiles/bricks industries, where heating temperatures are higher which raises the cost of bricks and produces lots of harmful gases.
