Abstract: |
A real time assistive and rehabilitative interfaces for neurological impairments. A Thought-to-Text system to implement typing using brain signals only (without any physical action) by decoding EEG. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Neurodegenerative disorders are life-debilitating impairments. Their is a lack of support for disability in Pakistan, due to which paralyzed patients face many challenges and are unable to function independently, meet their daily needs and pursue their dreams and passions. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
Patients suffering from physical disability but fully functional brain activity (locked-in syndrome) need a medium to communicate. This device can be used for such communication bypassing muscular pathways by disabled individuals as well as medical practitioners (hospital doctors and therapists). |
How will the solution works |
The device can be visualized as 3 modules:
1. Deep Learning Model trained to classify EEG signals into an output to predict intended cursor movement direction
2. Data acquisition: EEG recording , preprocessing and windowing.
3. Graphical User Interface (app) to hierarchically type alphabets.
These modules can be interfaced to form a real time device by deploying ML model on a server. EEG transmitted to the server and model predictions transmitted from server to GUI to control alphabet selection |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
There is not any competition nationally as no such brain-computer interface exists in Pakistan. Internationally there are some competitors providing Brain Typing. However, our solution is different as we propose a portable device that can help a large number of audience compared to massive setups. |
