Abstract: |
Since time in memorial, clean drinkable water has always been a luxury for the most impoverished. Our project aims to provide an economical-alternative to expensive water filtration methods out there. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Conventional water filtration plants can cost millions of rupees to set up and run effectively. With over-bearing costs involved, pure drinkable water is one of the biggest challenges we face today. Average households cannot afford expensive water-filter installations. We aim to change that! |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
According to the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources, about 44% of the population, still has no access to pure drinkable water. Solar H2O will help poor communities, especially the rural ones, who cannot afford expensive water filtration plants, in attaining a means to do just that. |
How will the solution works |
Raw water enters our glass glazed sheet, angled at 45°, on to a black tray, and evaporates due to solar energy. The evaporated water condenses across the inner glass surface and is carried across packed-activated charcoal. This removes suspended impurities, with the drinkable water collected at the bottom of the trough. Construction components: sheet metal enclosure, black paint for good radiation absorption, styrofoam insulation, black coloured tray, reflective inner sheets and glass glazing. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
Competitors include costly-membrane filter systems. Our device provides a highly cost-economical solution, employing a renewable source of energy and environment-friendly construction components. The unit operates on a no-electricity requirement, keeping in mind of local load-shedding scenerios. |
