Abstract: |
Compostify aims to solve Pakistan's food waste management problems through sustainable practices . Food waste produced commercially and domestically will be converted to compost and sold as product. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
In Pakistan, organic waste is not considered a resource but an inconvenience. Tonnes of food is dumped into our landfills contributing to costs related to trash disposal, land pollution and emissions. Meanwhile, we are facing massive deforestation, soil salinity and nutrient deficient soil. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
Compostify has 3 beneficiaries: 1) Restaurants/cafes eliminate their food waste & fulfill CSR objectives. 2) Our customers (individuals, farmers, horticulture depts, nurseries, etc) get cheap high quality compost. 3) Our nation benefits from recycling & less waste, contributing to SDG 12 & 13. |
How will the solution works |
We collaborate with eateries (restaurants, cafes, etc) & train them in waste management practices to minimize food waste. Their sorted organic waste is collected & sent to the composting facility (providing employment to local people) which converts it to high quality compost. This compost can be packaged sustainably and sold to individual customers, as 'fertilizer' to nurseries, to farmers to use alongside conventional fertilizers, and to horticulture depts to be used in plantation drives. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
Almost all eateries dump their waste & do not make an effort to recycle it. They are only local composting facilities working in landfills whose compost is not sold as a branded product. Compostify collaborates with eateries nationwide while spreading awareness about waste management practices. |
