What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Cheap and reliable speed estimation is needed in our cities. This project will not only provide that but the hardware installed can be upscaled to create a network. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
Smart and reliable Speed Estimation modules normally cost a lot. Since Independently, a single camera or a single 2D Lidar cannot estimate speed of a vehicle(two widely available sensors), special modules had to be created for speed estimation. |
How will the solution works |
This project involves intelligent fusion of data from an optical camera and a 2D lidar for the purpose of speed estimation. SVM (Support Vector Machine) classifier will be used to classify vehicles and retrieve it’s length. This will be used in conjunction with a 2D lidar to estimate the speed of a vehicle. Extrinsic calibration will be used to obtain the rigid relationship between the two different sensors. Rasperry-pi will be used. |

Our project provides smart speed sensing functionality while retaining it's cost comparable to that of a speed gun. |
