Abstract: |
The annual food loss of 1.3 billion tons needs to be reduced by controlling post-harvesting losses, especially storage, by introducing novel and efficient Infestation monitoring technique for silos. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
There are many infestation monitoring techniques available for silos, each has its drawbacks, like cost, the requirement of labor or multi-sensor network, complex calibration, non-real-time monitoring, etc. This idea will mitigate all these limitations by introducing radar as a sensor in silos. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
An estimated 4000 Silos are present across the country and this number is fast growing, which comprising the government storage facilities including PASSCO, provincial food departments, and smaller private storage facilities at farms and floor/rice mills, possess silos. |
How will the solution works |
This solution is based on FMCW radar, which consists of a transmitter, receiver and signal processing module. The transmitter sends the signal through the transmitter antenna, which reflects from the insect body and silo background and received by the receiver antenna, which sends it to the signal processing block through receiver circuitry, that compares the current radar pulse with the previously transmitted pulse, and based on difference detects the movement of insect from the silo background |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
To the best of our knowledge, there is no local competitor having a similar product offering at the moment. Globally, companies like Krohne, Vega and many more are developing radar for level measurement in silos but none of these are working on infestation monitoring through radar. |
