Abstract:
The purpose of this project is to make an affordable crop and irrigation monitoring system using a combination of an automated drone and a one-click mobile application.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
The drones deployed for agricultural purposes currently have limited autonomous capability and are way too complex to be used by the common farmer. Therefore, they are only being used by large scale commercial farmers. Easy Kasht aims to address the need of the small scale farmer in this respect.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
According to the Agricultural Census 2017, there are over 5.25 million farms in Punjab alone with 68.9% being small scale farms. Punjab Agriculture Policy 2018 targets small commercial farmers to mobilize maximum capacity of the sector. Our product aims to take advantage of this scenario.
How will the solution works
The drone, controlled by a Raspberry Pi microcontroller, will fly over wheat fields and capture images of the crop. An on ground moisture sensor will transmit its readings to the drone. The drone will return and transfer the data to a mobile app via Bluetooth. The crop yield, calculated using RCNNs and water requirement will be displayed on the app. The computer vision model will be trained using Tensorflow.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
The existing companies in Pakistan such as Pak Zar Zameen provide crop mapping facilities which are way too expensive and complex to be used by small farmers. In their case, the investment costs is over 2 million for a drone. Our solution is not only easier to operate, but affordable as well.
