Abstract: |
Brain computer interface (BCI) can be defined as a pathway that enables human brain to communicate and voluntarily command an external device and generate output through actuators. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
This project aims at implementing the
research done in the field of BCI and providing a solution to this problem by using the brain
signals to control the bed to wheelchair conversion mechanism of the wheelchair through
the Brain-Computer Interface to assist patients suffering paralysis of limbs. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
About 0.48% of overall population of country is suffering from various disabilities, according
to the Sixth Population and Housing Census 2017. For most cases, paralysis is a major cause
of disability. This would open new horizons to normalizing actuation for paralyzed patients. |
How will the solution works |
Real time analysis and classification of the EEG signals using raw data from the headsets will be done to implement BCI on a bed-cum-wheelchair mechanism. Two movements have been associated with the classes to control motion of the wheelchair. For this purpose, a microcontroller will be used that will receive input from the output data of the classified signals; which would be then used to control the required motors. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
Limited to no competitors as majority of the work is still in the research phase. However we aim to achieve similar or even greater accuracies as obtained by renowned research facilities around the globe, while using a cost effective headset compared to various other ones which are 25 times its cost |
