Abstract:
    To design and fabricate an automobile crankshaft inspection machine to measure roundness profile and cylindricity of journals with a precision of up to 1 micron.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    Our product certifies that no malfunctioning equipment gets dispatched, that could have hit the environment and multiplied maintenance costs. It covers agriculture, which is reliant on heavy machinery, and the automotive industry, which requires precise and sustainable practices.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   The direct impact includes an improved IC engine life and efficiency due to reduced cyclic thermal loading. Moreover, it’ll also pave the way towards effective emission; hence reducing global warming. Every automotive customer can benefit from it.
How will the solution works
    The machine has two tailstocks, stationary and pneumatically controlled respectively. There are two V-blocks in between, on which the crankshaft is placed. The pneumatic tailstock comes forward and holds the crankshaft in place. The C-block with probes is placed on the pin journal of the crank and the crank is given rotation. The probes collect data from the surface, generate and display the surface profile of the journal. The machine decides if the part is acceptable as per the input criteria.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    The techniques of precision engineering and measurement are available in the international market, and we intend to bring forth this advancement in Pakistan but at a much cheaper cost, which can help the industry substantially.
