Abstract: |
Many hospitals in Pakistan (especially Rural areas) cannot afford Intensive care and mechanical ventilation equipment. The purpose is to design Cost Effective and autonomous ventilator. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
The prototype costs around 300-500 USD, thus can be easily afforded by the rural hospitals and many of the urban hospitals in Pakistan. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
This project proposes a very simple prototype which is able to replace an actual ventilator “for full-term neonates”. it will be afforded by rural hospitals also unlike normal ventilators. |
How will the solution works |
The prototype design incorporates the use of microcontrollers connected to an assembly of Spirometer connected to piezo resistive differential pressure sensor, Instrumentation amplifier, low pass filter and electronic solenoid valve which will automatically adjust the pressure being delivered to the neonate according to the current breathing profile. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
Competitors include normal ventilators which cost at least around 25,000 USD and Manual Bubble CPAP equipment. Our autonomous Prototype will necessitate minimum intervention of the medical staff and will costs around 300-500 USD only. |
