| This is a complete Outdoor Navigation System, attached to a stick, for blind people to help them navigate freely towards their destination, with a step by step Route Guide & Obstacle Detection. |
| What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
| There are over 39 million people in the world who are blind. With such a large and increasing population of blind people, there is a compelling need for a complete assistive system that would help such people to be very much independent and travel around freely. Our FYP aims on fulfilling this need. |
| Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
| This project will be a life-saver for the Visually-Impaired/blind people and will give a virtual eye to such people. This will make them understand their surroundings and will be able to go anywhere they want to without any hesitation. It will also ensure their safety in case of an emergency. |
| How will the solution works |
| First, the system will take voice input from the user which will be the name of the destination that he/she wants to go. That address will be Geocoded to obtain destination coordinates(LAT/LONG). These coordinates along with the current location coordinates obtained from the GPS will be passed to the Google Directions API to obtain directions for the destination. These directions will be updated continuously, depending on the GPS data and the output of the Ultrasonic sensor, and passed to user. |
| Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
| Many similar projects such as:“Smart walking stick” etc., exist already.But their navigation system was pretty expensive and inaccurate.However,our system will be cheap and very fast & accurate in navigation and obstacle detection.Also,it will have Emergency Alert and the Uber-booking functionality. |
