Abstract: |
Vira is a Virtual Reality Telepresence Robot designed specifically for Health care providers. It will allow them to have an immersive |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
There is a lack of qualified medical staff in the remote areas of our country. Vira will enable doctors to examine patients and confer with healthcare workers located in these areas and will reduce the risk of infectious disease transmission to frontline healthcare workers. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
Pakistan’s doctor-patient ratio remains 1 for every 1200 patients. The people living in remote/rural areas of Pakistan need Vira to gain access to proper healthcare. Our idea will benefit the more than 50% of Pakistan’s population who do not have access to basic primary healthcare services. |
How will the solution works |
Our Project consists of real-time video & audio transmission, the video is configured in dual-screen and viewed in Virtual Reality environment. Head movements of user are tracked using Wireless IMU application and the robot camera is moved accordingly, giving an immersive experience. Robot motion is controlled via a gesture-based navigation system using Gyro-scope glove and a pop-up module displays important clinical information of the detected patient in front of doctor in a pop-up form in VR. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
In Pakistan, there are no competitors. Internationally, two prominent companies iRobot and Boston Dynamics have telepresence robots deployed in the medical industry. However, Vira is a unique solution as it implements Virtual Reality technology combined with telepresence. |
