Abstract:
This project proposes an additional contactless braking system that will act as a secondary retarder for automobiles and it does not suffer from brake fade problems of friction brakes.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Many accidents in automobiles are caused due to brake failure of friction brakes. Friction brakes suffer from the problem of brake fade due to excessive load and use. Therefore, the proposed Magnetic Braking system will reduce load from friction brakes and reduce chances of brake failure.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
This braking system can be integrated in all vehicles. This will not only reduce load on existing braking system thus increasing its service life but also hopefully reduce number of accidents that occur due to brake failure.
How will the solution works
This Magnetic Braking system is a contactless braking system that is based on eddy currents. A relative motion between conductor and a magnetic field produces a retardation effect and slows the relative motion. Our system will be implemented with vehicle's existing braking system. When brakes will be applied, first Magnetic braking system will slow down the vehicle by dissipating energy in form of heat generated by eddy currents and then the friction brakes will stop it to a stand still.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
Most of existing braking systems are friction based thus this system is different from them.
