Abstract: |
A real-time approach for the detection of epileptic seizures (GTCS) to present a hardware implementation of this approach to notify caregivers using mobile based framework and cloud. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Epilepsy is 5th most common neurological disorder and it affects 50 million people and causes 600 deaths yearly. SUDEP in adults as well as youngsters and several severe accidents are also caused by seizures. No such device is yet available in local market so this device would be for local use. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
50 million in world and 1.38 Million in Pakistan are yearly diagnosed with epilepsy and 70% of them belong to low income background and they never get proper treatment. WHO states that by proper monitoring and treatment epileptic seizures can be prevented and SUDEP /accidents can be also be avoided. |
How will the solution works |
The device would be worn on upper arm. It would continuously get and process the data from the sensors. The device would monitor the sensors data for any epileptic activity. In case any epileptic activity is identified the device would send the data to the application via BLE. The application would send the notification to caregivers and would dump the data to cloud based on availability of internet. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
There is no local competitor and the devices available internationally have a price range of 200$-500$. Our proposed device will be locally available at much lower price. Moreover, the fusion of sensors which we will implement has not been implemented in any device yet. |
