Abstract: | |
The technological prowess of mankind is a testament to the process of evolution. Having said that, the next phase of evolution where we stand as human beings is to devise such means of development that are sustainable and ensure a better future for the upcoming generations. We will use Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) and Waste Plastic in new pavement construction.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Our aim is to develop a framework related to Reclaimed Asphalt (RAP) and plastic in order to incorporate economical, environment-friendly, and socially healthy means of constructing pavements. This would result in smart resource management, reduction in carbon emission, and cost-effectiveness.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
We are proposing a way of constructing roads that will cost less, last longer, reduce waste, and will be good for the environment. So this will revolutionize the transportation industry. Stakeholders in the transportation industry can benefit from it.
How will the solution works
We are using used asphalt by retrieving it during decommissioning of the pavements. Then we will use Plastic waste. The idea is to integrate plastic waste with reclaimed asphalt technology. Plastic waste would act as an admixture thus enhancing the structural stability of the pavement. As a result, we will reduce the use of virgin asphalt thus allowing the asphalt resources to be recharged. Moreover, Reclaimed asphalt has better carbon footprint than virgin asphalt.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
Our competition is with the conventional process of using virgin asphalt on a mass scale. Our solution is different as it preserves the existing resources of asphalt by recycling used asphalt. As a result, the preserves of bitumen will not be strained and it will be much more cost-efficient.
