Abstract:
Algae have the potential to be a valuable source of biofuel because they can grow quickly and efficiently, and they can be grown in a variety of environments. There are several ways to extract fuel from algae such as mechanical pressing, solvent extraction and using algae biomass as a feedstock for the production of biofuels such as biodiesel or bioethanol.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
An algae-based biofuel startup could potentially fulfill the demand for renewable energy, Algae can be grown in a variety of environments, making it a more space-efficient option for biofuel, can be grown with minimal water and has the potential to clean up water pollution.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
People who can potentially benefit from an algae-based biofuel include consumers, farmers and the environment. It is capable of having a significant impact on the renewable energy market and contribute to the transition to more sustainable energy sources
How will the solution works
The process of extracting fuel from algae involves extracting oils or lipids from the algae cells. This can be done through mechanical pressing, in which the algae cells are mechanically pressed to release the oil, or through solvent extraction, in which a solvent is used to dissolve the oil in the algae cells. The oil can then be collected and refined into biofuel. Alternatively, algae biomass can be converted into biofuels through processes such as fermentation or pyrolysis.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
There are several companies that are currently working on the development of algae-based biofuels in abroad such as Algenol, Solazyme but in Pakistan the field is relatively new. there is increasing demand for renewable energy sources in the country and this can be a possible solution.
