Abstract: |
Industrial upgradation has increased the demand for vertical wall work in construction, petrochemical, nuclear industry etc. It is challenging to inspect surfaces that are difficult to access. Manual inspection and cleaning of such surfaces can cause casualties and economic losses. This project aims at developing a wall-climbing robot to climb walls and to inspect and clean them. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Advancement of urbanization, has led to an increased demand of boilers that need maintenance from time to time but manual cleaning and inspection of boilers is extremely time consuming and dangerous for the workers so wall climbing robots are required. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
Industries such as fertilizer industries, sugar mills and power plants that use boilers need robots for inspection and cleaning. Industry owners will benefit since it provides a cheaper and faster alternative for maintenance of boilers and workers will benefit since their lives won’t be at a risk. |
How will the solution works |
The wall-climbing robot will use rubber wheels for locomotion. High friction of rubber will help prevent the robot from slipping. Moreover, magnets will be used for adhesion. They will enable the robot to stick with the steel wall of boiler. Furthermore, several sensors will be attached for inspection of boiler walls to detect any leakages and water jet or air jet mechanism will be attached to clean the walls. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
Such robots are not made in Pakistan but there are competitors abroad such as Ocean Robotics in Sweden, IRISNDT in Australia, HausBots in UK. All these companies manufacture expensive wall climbing robots so they are not in common use but our solution provides a more cost efficient and simple method |
