Abstract:
This work wil aim to present the utility of Bismuth ferrite nanoparticles in radiotherapy. First I will synthesize the nanoparticles and then ligands will be introduced which enable colloidal stability of particles and then will coat with polymer to provide ease of flow through the blood. Finally the effectiveness of particles will be tested using some biomedical techniques.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Cancer is one of the leading cause or mortality in every country of world. It is a very common disease and is major threat to human life. A preferential introduction of nanomaterials to tumor cells enhances the localized effect of radiations known as radiosensitizers.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
Cancer is a very common disease so this project will be very beneficial for those suffering from this disease. Radiotherapy coupled with other treatments and on its own has proven to be very effective in the treatment apart from its side effects which can be overcomed by these nanoparticles.
How will the solution works
High dose of radiation is shone on tumor site in radiotherapy. Radiations carry energy which get absorbed by atoms of body resulting in local excitation of electrons by these atoms. These electrons form various ionization tracks which forms the basis of all the damage that takes place. The cell damage takes place in the nucleas by Direct and Indirect DNA dmage. Using high atomic number nanomaterials are beneficial as they produce greater number of secondary electrons that form basis of damage.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
Bismuth ferrite if works as radiosensitizers will be very helpful because of high atomic number; low toxicity and cost. Moreover; introducing these nanoparticles will increase effect of radiation at tumor site hence treating it instead of series of radiation dose which can cause more side effects.
