Abstract: |
About 60% percent of stroke patients suffer from upper extremity dysfunction – hands. If left on its own, there is little chance of recovery. Our project aims to create a hand exoskeleton for carrying out rehabilitative exercises to improve the quality of life of patients. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Hemiplegic patients experience difficulty in carrying out activities of daily living. Physiotherapists generally rely upon the patients to push themselves to carry out exercises. Using hand exoskeletons would provide an external stimulus and may prove to accelerate the process of rehabilitation. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
The hand exoskeleton is aimed at patients suffering from hemiplegia - paralysis of one side of body, and hemiparesis - weakness or the inability to move on one side of the body, making it hard to perform activities of daily living (ADL). |
How will the solution works |
The hand exoskeleton is meant to restore the motor function of the hand by carrying out rehabilitative exercises. The hand exoskeleton is preprogrammed with rehabilitative exercises. Physiotherapists can remotely monitor the device to allow the patients to carry out exercises. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
International competitors include RobHand, HANDEXOS, HEXORR, etc. We intend to produce an affordable hand exoskeleton locally. |
