Abstract: |
An Electric Ducted Fan (EDF) is a kind of propulsion system, used in UAVs. Simply put, it is an electrically driven propeller enclosed in a duct, which improves performance, and reduces noise. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
We know that delivery drones are becoming increasingly important in today's world. An EDF can be paired with delivery drones, as they can make the delivery drones more efficient, and will reduce noise so they can be operated in populated areas. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
Delivery drones can be used in urban areas for payloads like groceries, package deliveries, medicines etc. They can also be used to deliver relief and aid packages in places struck by calamity and disaster (for example places affected by earthquakes). |
How will the solution works |
It generally operates like a standard propeller, powered by a motor and a battery, however the EDF has a duct around the fan, and a particular nozzle shape that improves the efficiency and performance of the fan. Once a singular design has been made, we can then attach multiple EDFs onto a UAV, allowing for better overall performance. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
Our competitors would be RC jets and standard UAVs. RC jets are very expensive to buy and maintain, standard UAVs make more noise and have worse performance. Furthermore, EDFs are not indigenously designed and manufactured in Pakistan. We would be the first to do it, and also would reduce cost. |
