Abstract: |
Around 13.3% of the world's food is lost in transit and 17% at the consumer level. The fundamental issues are long distribution routes and inadequate transportation and storage technologies. To solve the problem, we developed a solution: an automated humidification system that extends the shelf life of fruits and vegetables by decreasing deterioration, structural change, and moisture loss. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Approximately 13% of fruits and 11.5 percent of vegetables are never sold or decay due to their limited shelf life in stores. There is a market gap in this area. A suitable misting system is required to increase the life of fruits and vegetables while keeping their freshness. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
The food industry, especially retail shops, supermarkets, fruit and vegetable stalls, and seafood booths, is the primary market. It can help produce stalls, butcher shops, fishmongers and fish counters, and department stores. The key target is also to keep prices reasonable for small merchants. |
How will the solution works |
The hard water filter filters the incoming tap water before it is sent to the pump, where pressure is established, and ultimately through a non-return valve, which protects the pump from reverse pressure generated by the water tank when it fills up. The water will then be sent from the tank to the mist nozzles, which will open and close the valves as needed. Mist is then generated at the product end by the mist nozzles, increasing the rack life. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
Misting systems are available in Pakistan, however, they are not well-managed. Pakistan has not built a single fully automated misting system until recently. In India, a single misting system costs between Rs 400,000 and Rs 700,000 per system. There are currently no major competitors in Pakistan. |
