Abstract: |
Slope failure can cause catastrophic environmental and human disaster. The main focus of this research is to study the pile-soil response in sandy slope surfaces using Finite Element Method and to propose a design of piles that effectively counter the effects of phenomena leading to slope failures and increases its factor of safety. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
In northern areas most of the area is slopy and earthquake is a common hazard there. This results in the destruction of building through slope failure. Piles foundation can resists lateral seismic loading along with transfer of axial loads to hard strata. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
The need for this research is arise with a need to utilize the mountainous areas of Pakistan. Many of the northern areas comprise of slopy lands where we can utilize our analysis to design the best possible infrastructure. |
How will the solution works |
Perform slope stability analysis and find Factor of safety of slope using Abaqus with and without piles. We find optimum location for pile by inserting it in slopes at different locations. By changing length or diameter/width we find the effective parameters for piles. Apply seismic loading and check the slope stability. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
There are many other methods to stabilize the slope surfaces. But the use of piles stabilize slope along with the resistance to lateral loadings which allows for the construction of structures over the slope. |
