Abstract:
The hypertension or high blood pressure (BP) is a major health problem worldwide. As per national health survey of Pakistan, the hypertension affects 18% of adults and 33% of adults above 45 years old. Typically, the BP is monitored via upper arm blood pressure monitor, however, such monitoring can’t be done continuously. This will be achieved via advancements in millimeter-Wave (mm-Wave) Radar
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
Globally , 1.28 billion adults aged 30-79 years worldwide have hypertension. 47 % of the adults in US have hypertension whereas 33 % of adults (above age 45) in Pakistan have hypertension according to National Health Survey of Pakistan.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
Current techniques of Blood Pressure monitoring include non continuous/cuffed or invasive methods which result in inconvenience and inaccuracy in measurements . Our objective is to provide convenient means of BP measurement for patients for whom invasive techniques pose problems.
How will the solution works
Our solution includes Cuffless – Non invasive continuous Blood Pressure measurement through mmWave Radar method. To obtain arterial pulse wave on the wrist through a sensor e.g mmwave radar sensor operating at 60 GHz. With every heartbeat, the pulsation travels along the artery and create minute motions on the surface of the skin. Using radar, the mm-wave radar sensor reads these motions and translates them into a arterial pressure waveform. The arterial pressure waveform analyzed by algorithms
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
Apple : working on the development of BP measurement methodology in smart watches , however, not yet commercially launched. Infineon and Blumio collaboration to launch a wearable BP measurement. These products are costly and not within the reach of majority of the people.
