Abstract: |
To create a product for low income flea bazar areas that is retractable, provides shade, offers low cost cooling, goes with the aesthetic and adds to the shopping experience. It should improve the well being of the users and battle heat related illnesses. This would improve business as people would stay longer and shop more. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Sunday bazars in Pakistan are local clusters of tiny shops selling cheap or preloved items. Such areas have makeshift infrastructure as it mainly exists for the low income communities. They usually do not have adequate prevention from heat for the customers and offer them a poor shopping experience. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
Pakistan is a hot country; the heat can cause fatigue, exhaustion, hyperthermia and worsen preexisting illnesses. It especially affects children, outdoor workers and elderly. Adding shade would reduce heat gain in the area and adding a cooling system would safeguard the well being of the customers. |
How will the solution works |
The shade would be made of a reflective material to reduce heat absorption and with biomimicry of transpiration in trees, have tiny nozzles under the surface which spray water periodically thus creating a cool environment. Water would come from plastic disposable bottles placed upside-down near the pole of the shade which would take the water through pipes to the nozzles. Energy would come from solar cells on the shade surface. The shade would be retractable to allow high rise vehicles to pass. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
As this is a project for improving user experience in a low income bazar area hence there are not many competitors. The solution intends to provide customers with a comfortable environment to fulfil their shopping experience which would offer relief from the sun and prevent illnesses caused by heat. |
