Under-developed countries like Pakistan lack in resources to properly monitor hydrometeorological extremes such as droughts. The study intends spatial investigation of historical drought indices over Pakistan as well as future time series forecasting of drought indices using AI-based technique such that the forecasting would focus on some regions of Pakistan more vulnerable to drought hazards. | |

Although, studies have been conducted in Pakistan focusing on historical drought indices, forecasting these critical indices via analytical techniques (especially AI-based) remains an area yet to be comprehensively focused on. | |

Socio-economic system of Pakistan is being and going to be affected by the hydrometeorological extremes like droughts. Thus, a comprehensive study on Pakistan’s drought profile as well as future forecasting of drought indices could offer benefit to sectors like agriculture and disaster management. | |
How will the solution works | |
Reanalysis model-based precipitation and temperature data will be obtained from historical archive of ECMWF and will be evaluated by using ground-based observed data as a reference. After comprehensively assessing the statistical accuracy of model-based dataset, drought profiling of Pakistan would be conducted via spatial maps prepared in R statistical software. The last and foremost analyses are focused on time series future forecasting of drought indices using AI-based in-built packages of R. | |
