Abstract:
    Groove measurement has always been a hard task for the automotive industry. This is due to the small dimensions involved. Industries have been using destructive techniques which is an expensive way for measurement. Our aim is to give a solution to the industry that is inexpensive and utilizes the non-destructive technique for measurement while maintaining a high micron level accuracy.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    OEM technologies in Pakistan are currently using destructive techniques for measuring the internal dimensions of the groove. There are no solutions available locally or internationally that provide the non-destructive technique for measuring the groove internal dimensions accurately.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   OEM technologies in Pakistan need this solution as the destructive techniques already available are too expensive. All OEM technologies in Pakistan would benefit from it as the solution will be available locally and it will accurately measure the groove dimensions with a non-destructive technique.
How will the solution works
    Our solution will use a jig designed for the micrometer depth gauge. The legs of the jig will fit inside the groove to lock the center axis of the piston. The depth gauge will first take a reference with the help of a precision block which will be inserted inside the groove. Once the reference is taken, the depth gauge rod will go inside the groove and take the required measurement accurately up to the micron level.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Different OEM technologies providing measurement solutions are our main competitors. Our solution is different from them because they are providing destructive techniques for groove measurement while our solution is a non-destructive technique. Our solution is also accurate to the micron level.
