| Abstract: |
| The increasing exposure to air pollutants associated with urbanization is adverse for human health. Urban residents spend more than 90% of their time indoors where concentration of pollutants is higher. At present, nature-based solutions are the most advised to mitigate urban climate and improve urban air quality. In this project 'MOSS' is used as bio filters for improving indoor air quality. |
| What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
| Market offers air purifiers that consist of HEPA filters. In 2019, 15,000,000 air filters were purchased. This comes out to around 6000 tons of HEPA filters annually, an unsustainable amount because many HEPA filters are not biodegradable. |
| Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
| According to WHO, 3.8 million people die from indoor air pollution. It causes various kinds of acute and chronic illness such as pulmonary, cardiac, neurological, reproductive, developmental disorders and diseases. So product is designed to be used in homes specifically. |
| How will the solution works |
| The product is designed as an air purifier to improve indoor air quality using bio-filters. It falls under the category of house appliances. Moss have the capability of absorbing PM2.5 and PM10.Along with the moss filter activated carbon and cotton filter will also be used to absorb VOCs, odor, pet dander, bacteria and molds. Fan will suck the unclean air and exhale the cleaned air. The purifier will be wall mounted design that will be user friendly, aesthetically pleasing and ergonomic. |
| Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
| The competitors are the air purifier companies in the market. The project is unique as instead of HEPA filters design incorporates bio filters i.e. moss. Although this will be the first intervention of moss filters in the market. |
